Yes I know, Einstein said nothing travels faster than the speed of light, but he was human, prone to make mistakes(self admitted; universal constant). Humans weren't suppose to travel faster than the speed of sound and that was proven wrong. Sound is propagation of waves in the medium of air, light is propagation of waves in the medium of space, as is waves on a pond, or the actions of the vocal chords, or the functions of the brain; there has to be a connection. If one can be understood and manipulated, then all can be, regardless of frequencey or intensity. It will not be just one theory, but a combination of theories, as has happened in the past, to prove this correct. Quatium gravity, mechanics and physics, String theory, even Chaos theory will contribute; hopefully under a different name(how about Organized theory). Actual space craft with these systems probably won't come to pass for centuries later. Sounds like Star Trek?, even Stephen Hawking liked Star Trek,(even appeared in an episode). I know this sounds just like an encyclopedia article, but I've always been intrigued by the electromagnetic propagation of waves and the partical/wave duality, from radio to gamma. It makes perfect sense.

I tend to think that FTL transportation will become a reality at some point, but there are problems that there doesn't yet seem to be any way around. Unfortunately, the speed of light seems not so much to be how fast light happens to go but rather the fastest that anything can propagate through spacetime -- light simply happens to go as fast as it can, and what we think of as 'the speed of light' is simply the limit on that.
The limitation seems to have something to do with the operation of time itself. With the speed of sound, the problem was mostly one of turbulence; with the speed of light, the problem seems to be the universe itself. Science fiction generally doesn't deal with some of the paradoxes involved in FTL travel simply because there's no good solution to them, and they'd wreck the story.
For example, Einstein and pretty much every expert afterward agrees that if you can go (or can even just transmit a message) faster than the speed of light (and we're talking about the speed of light unhampered through a vacuum), then you can cause temporal paradoxes -- for example, you can send a message but get a reply before you sent the message. In fact, it's hard to avoid one or another temporal paradox. Warp drives, hyperspace, teleportation, wormholes: they all have this problem. It's kind of a pain.
Right now, we don't have to worry about that because the only possible FTL technologies that we've thought of which are even allowed by theory and hypothesis are impossible with existing technology anyway. They all require too much energy -- by a huge margin -- and/or things like 'strange matter', which we're not even sure yet actually exists.
I suppose we may find out someday. I couldn't guess if we'll find out by 2150. I wouldn't want to lay odds either way. When I write SF, I often put FTL in there, just like most other folks, because it's very handy as a plot device, but it's just a plot device so far.
There are numerous FTL theories today already, perhaps the most mysterious one originating from Burkhard Heim. No doubt there will be new theories around in 2150, but I don't see that a single one will become widely accepted for example like the big bang theory today (supported my more than 95% of all reputable physicists). Even a superintelligent singularity cannot change fundamental laws and properties of particles. The singularity could help us write down a GUT or ToE, but this might not allow for a mainsteam FTL theory on which basis an implementation after 2150 could be based.
The future of interstellar space travel is slow interstellar space travel. We should focus on that.
I believe what Einstein proved was NOT that the speed of light is the universal upper velocity limit, but that it is impossible for anything to CROSS over from one side of this velocity to the other.
That means that if an object is moving faster than the speed of light at the instant that it comes into existence, then any velocity less than light speed would be impossibly slow for it. Likewise, for more familiar objects that move slower than light from their beginnings, anything faster is impossible. Photons (among other particles) move at exactly that speed - presumably from the instant when they came into existence, so they can move neither faster nor slower than light speed; their speed is always the same, since they, too, cannot cross this boundary to either side.
I suspect that this precludes those of us who were born at safe speeds from going faster than light, but never say never, especially in physics (just ask any 19th century Newtonian physicist, who "knew" with absolute certainty that time was universal and that space is the same anywhere in the universe).
The problem with the prediction is clear:
"[...] will become realized, but not implemented [...]"
is a self-contradictory statement.
"Realized" is here a synonymous of "implemented".
If this is not the case, then "realized" is indeed part of a few theories, e.g., superluminal signaling, which are already out there, and therefore do not require a prediction.
