To design a "manufacturing" machine that has very broad capabilities is far more expensive than creating a single purpose machine. To add the ability to self-replicate also adds considerably to the expense. The idea that this could somehow help developing nations seems incorrect to me. If someone in the developing nation wants to manufacture something, they need the manufacturing machine to be inexpensive, not a cadillac model with lots of bells and whistles like reproducing itself.

I know, if it can reproduce itself, then they only need to buy one machine instead of lots of machines. They could also produce multiple product lines with fewer machines because they are flexible. However, they still need to buy all the parts that are going to be put together to make the new machines. Cheap labor to put those parts together is something developing nations already have in spades. I know the self replicating feature is way cool, but it isn't going to help developing nations.

Now if you include nano-manufacturing machines that self replicate rather than what is shown on your website, I withdraw all of my negative comments.
